There is
an increasing awareness that veterinary dentistry is an important yet
relatively underdeveloped area of veterinary practice. In Britain, this
need was recognised and the BVDA was formed in 1988. The BVDA aims to
meet the needs of the rapidly expanding field of Veterinary dentistry
by:-
(a) Running modular veterinary dentistry courses from introductory
to advanced levels
(b) Promoting veterinary dentistry by regional meetings, lectures
and media exposure
(c) Providing associate membership of the American Veterinary Dental
Society
(d) Compiling and maintaining a list of those members who accept
referrals
(e) Presenting a one day scientific meeting before BSAVA congress
(f) Publishing the BVDA's own scientific journal
The BVDA has strong links with other veterinary dental societies in Europe,
Australia, Canada and the USA. In addition to the quarterly BVDA Journal,
members also receive the American Veterinary Dental Society's Journal
of Veterinary Dentistry. Members are also kept informed of what is
going on by periodical news-letters from the Journal Editor. Additionally,
the BVDA council actively worked with the European Veterinary Dental Society
to set up a European qualification in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery
(Dip European Veterinary Dental College).
Membership of the BVDA keeps you in touch with colleagues who have similar
interests. It also helps to keep you up to date with the ever changing
aspects of veterinary dentistry.
